The country was ranked as Africa’s favorite tourism destination of 2012 by Lonely Planet and it was also ranked as among the top 20 global tourism destinations in the year 2013 by National Geographic. All the recognition of the country’s tourism has attracted attention from very many countries in the world and has led to an increase in the number of visitors. Uganda offers safaris as well as in the beautiful Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. In these countries, a tourist is exposed to an array of animals, the most popular six being listed below;

While on your Uganda safari, you will be driven by Uganda Safari Packages experienced drivers who are well versed with the area and also trained guides who will answer all questions plus providing security while in the bush.

The mighty lion is the first animal to see while on a safari. Lions are the most feared animals in the jungle and are strong predators that prefer to hunt at dusk or dawn. This hunting is mainly done by the females as the males stay resting waiting to feast. The secret behind the lions found in Uganda in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National park is that they do climb trees. Leave along other lions in the world tree climbing lions can only be found in two countries Uganda and Tanzania so you will expect to see such unique animals left in the world. Apart from Queen Elizabeth National Park, there are other national parks to see the lion which are Murchison Falls and Kidepo Valley National Parks. Note tree climbing lions in Uganda can only be seen in Queen Elizabeth national park.

Other animals that are common in Uganda are the Mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. These gorillas are basically herbivorous and Uganda is the best destination for both chimp and gorilla tracking in East Africa. Gorillas in Uganda are mainly found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga. When planning for a gorilla safari, Uganda is one of the best choices that you can make. These rare primates are well habituated and are easily seen on a Gorilla tracking trip. Before a visitor is allowed to track gorillas in Uganda, he/she is required to purchase a gorilla permit. These gorilla permits are issued by Uganda Wildlife Authority at their offices found in Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb. It’s advisable that to book gorilla permits in advance to avoid inconveniences. During peak season, acquiring a gorilla permit in Uganda becomes so competitive and this is a result of the high number of trekkers that come to the country. Gorillas are also found in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The black and white Rhinos are one of the animals that greatly attract tourists in Uganda. These Rhinos feed basically on leaves from trees and bushes. The life span of a protected rhino is 35 to 45 years. A female rhino is one of the most caring mothers when it gives birth. This is because after giving birth, she stays close to her calf for 2 to 4 years forming a close relationship during this time.

Buffalos have a reputation of being dangerous when disturbed but these ox-like animals are also beautiful to watch when grazing in the grasslands. They have strong horns and often congregate near water whenever they are done with feeding in the Grasslands.

An elephant is another animal that will keep your safari exciting due to its gigantic structure. Its lifespan is 60 to 70 years and it lives more than the rhinos. Elephants move in herds and it is always advisable to keep a distance to avoid accidents. The best places to see this great wild animal are Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, and Kidepo Valley National Parks.

Leopards are another cat animals that one would not want to miss on a safari. These cat animals live solitary lives and they only come together during mating season. They are also predators and are extremely powerful.

However, there are many other interesting animals in Uganda to be found on a Safari and these can be seen on your once you visit this Pearl of Africa.

Simple Fuel Saving Tips for Car Renters

Hiring a Car today provides an easy way to travel East Africa. However the prices for fuel in some East African countries remain hire. Knowing simple tips to Fuel saving is essential for those planning to take car rental in East Africa.

Fuel saving is another contagious issue when it comes to car hiring especially in East Africa. Very many clients can not specify the kind of option fits them when it comes to fuel whether to receive a car totally empty and return it in the same state or get a fully topped up vehicle and return it as well in the same state. When you hire a vehicle in a different country, you need to know all about refueling and the rules regarding the return of your hire car and thoroughly talk about it and strike a compromise with your car hiring company.

Here are some tips on refueling your hire car:

Before filling up your hire car, make sure that you know which type of fuel you need to use. It’s a good idea to check with your car hire representative at the pickup desk. For more tips on things to ask about when collecting your hire car, take a look at our checklist for during your trip. The main fuel options will be unleaded or diesel, but in some locations you will also find leaded petrol and LPG, so it’s important to use the correct one for your hire car. If you put the wrong fuel in your car, you will be liable for repair costs.

Make sure that you know how to open the fuel tank. Some cars may have a lever to pull, and you will need to know where this is. Again this is something you can ask about at the car hire company before leaving in your hire car. Always remember to replace the cap securely before driving off.

Make a note of which side of the hire car the petrol cap is on, so you won’t need to stretch the hose across the car to fill up.

In some places, you have to pay for your fuel before you fill up your hire car. If you are paying by card, remember that some card-equipped self-service pumps may not take the card you have so check before filling up. It’s always a good idea to carry enough cash with you to cover the cost of refueling in case your card isn’t accepted.

If you are going on a long journey, always start out with a full tank and fill up your hire car where you can. On some routes it could be a long time before you come across another service station, especially if you are driving late at night or in a remote country location.

Prices will differ everywhere, but wherever you are, it always seems to cost more to fill up on motorways or in the vicinity of airports. So, to save money, wait until you are out of the area to refuel. The same applies to filling up your hire car before returning it.

Car hire companies differ in their policies regarding the refueling of hire cars before their return. You may need to return the hire car with the same amount of petrol that it had to begin with pay for a full tank before you take the hire car and return it without having to refill it simply pay for the fuel you have used when you return your hire car.

Gadgets You Need for a Rental Car

Hiring a car is the perfect way to get around during your trip abroad. When choosing a hire car, remember to consider the size and type of car, and any extras that you may need. Extras should be ordered in well in advance, so that you can be sure that the car hire company will have them available. Don’t turn up at the rental desk and expect to obtain extras that have not been pre-booked, as it won’t always possible for the car hire company to fulfill your request. Not all hire cars will be fitted with everything that you want; the availability of extras will depend on the class and size of car you have requested.

The extras that are commonly available when you hire a car include:

Navigation systems – These give you step-by-step directions from your location to your destination. Some units have touch-screen controls and/or a voice recognition feature, and will alert you to traffic hold-ups, road works, detours and any other problem. Very few car rental companies in Uganda do have these gadgets so first inquire with any company that you wish to hire from whether they have such gadgets in order you don’t be caught by surprise.

Music systems – A broad selection of music will make driving in your hire car more enjoyable, especially on longer journeys. Some car hire companies offer radios with CD players, MP3 or iPod connectivity, satellite radio etc. However, some smaller hire cars won’t even have a CD player, so bear this in mind when booking if music is important to you.

Safety restraints for children – Child seats must be used for children at all times. You will find that these seats are a legal requirement in most places, but even if they aren’t, you should still use them. You will normally have to fit the chair into your hire car yourself, so take care in doing so and always check it afterwards. Remember to check that the belts fit correctly and are done up securely. However, most companies offer these amenities at relatively cheap extra costs. Children who are too old for an infant carrier or child seat may still need extra help to be safely buckled in. A booster seat ensures that the child is at the correct height for safe travel in the hire car. Never take a chance with children’s safety; it is against the law to not comply with the local regulations.

Fast-track service – Many car hire companies offer an upgraded check-in option, where you are fast tracked through the process of picking up your hire car. Everything will be ready for you, and there will be no standing in line, which is great after you have disembarked from a flight and just want to get to your hotel as quickly as possible.

Renting Cars in Uganda – Do You Have Enough Car insurance?

Many people who reserve a rental car in Uganda show up to the counter with little thought given to the “what if’s” that could result from them driving a car that is not their own. You wouldn’t think of driving your own car without coverage, so take a few moments to consider how you will make sure that your rental car is covered.

Here are 3 steps to take to ensure you have adequate coverage.

  1. When you’re calling the rental car company for a quote, find out how much the coverage costs and what it covers. Their rates for insurance/coverage may be higher but they also offer the least hassle, since you may not have to file a claim on your own insurance. Many car rental companies have a couple of options, including buying down the deductible to a hundred dollars (or so, depending on where you live) or even to zero.
  2. Contact your car insurance company. They may already cover you for rental cars in certain situations. For example, if your car is in the shop, they may automatically transfer your coverage and deductible to a rental car. This is a replacement-only type of coverage because they are covering you on a different car. For an additional cost, you may be able to purchase either a temporary or ongoing rider (depending on the insurance company) to cover your rental car even if your car is not in the shop. This is considered a non-replacement-type of coverage since you will need coverage on both cars because they potentially could both be driven.
  3. Contact your credit card company or check out the Cardholder’s Agreement. Your credit card may cover you for rental car insurance. Check to see that they cover you in your specific situation. For example, there are certain cars they cover (some don’t cover trucks or SUVs) or they may not cover you depending on where you drive or how long you have the car.

Armed with this knowledge, you can make an educated estimate of what the costs are to ensure that you are fully covered on your rental car. After all, you want to have peace-of-mind when you’re on your next trip.
